Nokia launches 41 megapixel smartphone‎

Nokia says the phone is only so slightly heavier than previous models and is still pocketable.

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has unveiled a new smartphone with an unprecedented 41-megapixel camera.

The 450 Euros device, 808 PureView, runs on software that Nokia is reportedly phasing out in favour of the Windows Phone.

The new smartphone, which was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is expected to launch in Europe in May, The Telegraph reports.

With 41 MP, the phone is able to shoot images that Nokia claims can be printed in "poster size".

Files, however, condense four or five pixels into one, and Nokia claims they are smaller than equivalent products from rivals.

A Carl Zeiss lens shoots in continuous focus HD video, at 1080p.

Mary McDowell, the firm s executive vice president for mobile phones, said the company s engineers had been working on the product "for years".

She said it was "natural" to assume that its technology would be used in other Nokia products in the future.

McDowell added that while the device was larger than its rivals, it was still sized to fit in pockets, rather than replace a full-size camera.

According to the report, the device uses a 1.3GHz processor, comes with 16GB of storage and runs a 4" screen at 360 x 640, which is below HD resolution.

Samsung vs Apple iPhone

Few days back Apple made another move in the chess match, amending its complaint against Samsung to strengthen the language and to include a number of new Samsung models, including some of those set to be turned over to Apple today, as infringing products.

Many of the changes are designed to portray Samsung's alleged infringement as an incredibly outrageous act of copying. The original complaint already accused Samsung of "slavishly copying" Apple's designs. The amended one stresses that Samsung "has been even bolder" than other competitors emulating Apple's products and has created "products that blatantly imitate the appearance of Apple's products to capitalize on Apple's success."In addition to the original 15 Samsung models cited in Apple's lawsuit, the following models have been added: Droid Charge, Exhibit 4G, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Prevail, Galaxy S (i9000), Gravity, Infuse 4G, Nexus S 4G, Replenish, Sidekick, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Galaxy S II. Apple has also tweaked some of the patent claims included in the lawsuit, removing a few assertions and adding other patents to the mix.

Apple's dispute with Samsung is being closely watched for a number of reasons, including Samsung's recent strong growth with the Android platform, Samsung's role as a prominent supplier for components of Apple's iOS devices, and the vociferousness of Apple's claims of outright copying by Samsung accompanied by numerous side-by-side comparisons in support of the claims.

Apple has amended and expanded its intellectual property right complaint against Samsung to include more products and more patents.

In April, Apple filed suit against the Korean giant, alleging that products like the Galaxy S series of smartphones and the original Galaxy Tab copied the look and feel of Apple products, violating the Cupertino company’s patents and intellectual property.

In the amended complaint, Apple has added a number of handsets — including Droid Charge 4G and the Galaxy S II.

We decided to take a look at some of the Samsung products Apple claims violate its intellectual property to see just how similar the design and UI aesthetic is to the big fruit.

Tips for Improvement of your Mobile Phone Battery life

We are all aware that mobile phone’s battery has not improved as much as the mobile phone and these latest gadgets have improved. Juice draining is a common problem that many of us are suffering from.
Now a days many people are buying more than one battery for their mobile phones and getting car chargers too, to keep their mobile phone powered on 24/7. Many even try to make sure that they carry their charger with them along wherever they go.

The iPhone is a great device for performing a wide variety of functions, like sending email, watching a movie, getting directions to a destination, playing games, surfing the internet, or of course, making a phone call. One thing that hampers the iPhone’s ability to be a worry-free productivity device is its the battery life. It can vary widely depending on how you use your iPhone. Apply all or some of these tips and your battery life should get better.

Keeping Battery Power Stay for Longer:
Scientists are working on air-fueled battery that would have the capacity to store up to ten times the energy storage. Oxygen drawn from the air reacts within the porous carbon to release the electrical charge in this lithium-air battery. But we can not wait for this technology to reach our hands, so about trying to save the battery from draining so quickly!
Use Genuine Charger:
Always use a genuine mobile charger, instead of going for the low-priced Chinese made non-genuine mobile phone chargers in order to get maximum out of your mobile battery.
Take Care of your Mobile’s Battery:
Keep your mobile battery terminals clean – you can do this by cleaning it once in a month time with alcohol. keeping it away from moisture, water and high temperature.
Lower your Mobile’s Display Brightness:
Set the brightness of your mobile phone on a low level – this will also be good for your eyes. Also, shorten the display duration too, this will help you in great deal!
Use Dark Colored Themes:
Use themes with dark colors, as whitish themes eat more battery than any other activity on phone.

Don’t download from iTunes or App Store Wirelessly: Downloading apps and media is hard on the battery. Just wait until you get home and use your computer.
Turn Off Vibrate in Games: A lot of games have very frequent vibrations, which drain battery life. If you can, turn them off in the game’s settings. Don’t play too much games.
Turn off 3G: If you’re really low on battery, and are willing to do whatever it takes to keep the phone alive for emergency situations, then go and turn off 3G. Hey, EDGE sucks, but it still works.
Turn off keyboard clicks: If you frequently use your iPhone’s keyboard, navigate to the Sounds pane of Settings  and turn the option for Keyboard clicks off.
Keep the Talk short:
This might sound odd and totally absurd, but try talking short – especially when you know that your battery might run out. Particularly, when you are on motor-way and may not reach a recharging point for next few hours.
You can leave some of the unnecessary gossips (aur sunao stuff). Keep the conversation brief and relevant and of course avoid taking unnecessary calls.
Turn Off Vibration:
Vibration feature in the mobile phone consumes quite a lot of battery power, therefore, we should try keeping the vibration off unless the mobile phone is on ‘silent’. Vibrating mobile phones also create disturbance during an important meeting. So keep it off unless it is very necessary.
Switch it Off:
Don’t assume that I am asking you to switch off your phone off all the day or all the time, but you can keep it switched off when you are out-station and there is no coverage.
Let it Discharge completely before you charge again:
If you want to get the maximum out of your mobile phone’s battery then always let the mobile battery get fully discharge and then turn off the mobile before you charge it. Full charging gives the battery long life time.

Can You Really do Without Your Blackberry Device?

clip image0025 Can You Really do Without Your Blackberry Device?

Okay, I will be the first to admit, ever since I got a Blackberry, I have been raving about it to everyone.
At first, I never thought I would get used to it, and it seemed like a huge big calculator to me (I am more used to sleek phones). But once I got it, it really grew on me.
But now I have begun to wonder if there really is any big deal about a Blackberry and more important, can you do without it?
Well, first of, let me begin with telling you the truth. I got my Blackberry cellphone from my company and they pay for the service charges as well. So basically for me, it’s free. Otherwise, I would have been forced to shell out a minimum of Rs. 15,000 for a basic device (a pearl) and at least Rs. 1,000 per month just for the services.
So would I opt for it if I had to pay the charges for myself? Well, after thinking about it for sometime, I would have to say a Big No.
Although the Blackberry really does help with my work, it intrudes on my personal time as well. Whenever I hear its buzz, I get this urge to check the inbox.
The premium charge for Blackberry service is a lot. Almost all cellular operators are offering GPRS packages (2GB limit for Rs. 500) whereas the minimum charges for Blackberry service are from Rs. 750 – Rs. 1,000 (depending on operator), which means that with Blackberry I am spending about Rs. 250 – 500 extra. Now what do these extra charges translate into?
Very little actually!
Officially Blackberry browsers are not working so I am confided to do the browsing with a 3rd party application like the Bolt. The Facebook app will not work as well. I do get an option to configure 10 e-mail addresses but I can do the same on any new smartphone as well.
In fact, many e-mail services like Gmail have their own apps which work a lot better on non-blackberry smartphones. Unfortunately you will be unable to use Yahoo on blackberry unless you have a paid account so that is another expense.
The other two options that I get is a Blackberry e-mail address, which goes something likename@serviceprovider.blackberry.com but do I really need another e-mail address after Gmail? Again, I would say: NO!
Here, I would like to mention a really nice feature, the Blackberry messenger. But again, most of my contacts are on MSN, so incase I really want to trade encrypted (yes indeed, BB messenger is encrypted) messages with my work colleagues regarding my boss, then it really is a great utility.
A myth which somewhat generated about Blackberry services is that browsing is really fast. I haven’t really noticed the speed although the OS is really great, I don’t really like their browser. So any 3rd party browser is bound to affect speed.
Yes, you do get push based e-mail so your phone won’t be engaged when you get e-mails so that really is a plus point.
But at the end of the day, I will prefer a phone with nice multimedia features, a nice camera, 1 year warranty (yes, incase you did not know, most operators are offering Blackberry’s in Pakistan with a limited warranty) and the ability to use the Facebook app without having to pay extra. And lets not forget, I will still be able to configure multiple e-mail addresses.
